King Charles III has met 10 US presidents, from Dwight Eisenhower to Joe Biden. Richard Nixon tried to set Charles up with his daughter Tricia, and he grew close to Nancy Reagan. Donald Trump was skeptical of Charles' environmental work, while Biden joins his climate meetings. Her son and successor, King Charles III, has met 10. Photos show how Charles' relationships with US presidents have developed and changed through the years.

The aircraft, shaped like a dart and painted black, was a D-21 supersonic reconnaissance drone. Ultimately unsuccessful, the drone would be relegated to the annals of aviation history if not for the appearance of a strikingly similar Chinese drone unveiled at a recent military parade. High altitude, high speedLockheed's solution was to create an unmanned high-altitude high-speed reconnaissance aircraft with similar capabilities as the A-12, but much smaller. CNN —It took less than six months for Speaker Mike Johnson to reach his existential moment. His tiny majority means he can’t afford to lose more than one GOP vote to pass a bill on a party-line vote. But a GOP speaker dependent on Democratic votes will be seen by many Republicans as a tool of the minority party and would be on borrowed time. In this way, those who oppose Ukraine aid on principle could vote against it, allowing Democrats who support it to ensure its passage. These are important responsibilities,” Johnson told Tapper.

Look no further than the close and historically complicated relationship that American presidents and congressional leaders have negotiated with Israel leaders over the last 75 years. Obama declined to invite Netanyahu to the White House during the visit, with White House officials saying that holding such a visit so close to Israel's election would be inappropriate. The standard Obama set for a White House visit wasn't one Bill Clinton subscribed to years earlier. Joe Biden is one of the most unpopular presidents in modern American history. In Gallup polling, his approval ratings are lower than those of any president embarking on a re-election campaign, from Dwight Eisenhower to Donald Trump. Apart from anxiety about his age, there isn’t a chattering-class consensus or common shorthand for why his presidency is such a political flop. When things went south for other recent chief executives, there was usually a clearer theory of what was happening. Trump’s unpopularity was understood to reflect his chaos and craziness and authoritarian forays.

His performance so far reflects his success at transforming the Republican Party in his image. The most important message from the primaries is the most straightforward: Trump’s coalition is the dominant faction in the GOP. Like McConnell’s announcement, the choices by GOP elected officials in the primary contest signal their acknowledgement of the party’s direction. The share of GOP elected officials who have endorsed Haley isn’t anywhere near as large as her share of the total vote. But a deeper factor also explains the imbalance in support among GOP elected officials.

He seems to have been a very good father, but his political worldview was predicated on a deep pessimism. The Republican Party in the 1920s, ’30s and early ’40s was steeped in pessimism, and that pessimism showed up as it often does: as nativism, isolationism and protectionism. As World War II loomed, Senator Gerald Nye urged the passage of several neutrality acts to keep us from exporting arms to warring nations and opposed Lend-Lease to Britain. That version of the Republican Party ended in 1952, when Dwight Eisenhower defeated Taft for the Republican presidential nomination. Howard Buffett was so dismayed by the outcome that he refused to endorse Ike, his party leader.

CNN —There is a simple reason why many Republicans will snub Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s desperate plea for billions of dollars in arms and ammunition. He told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins in an interview in Kyiv Sunday that Republicans such as Trump ally Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance – who have been speaking out against more Ukraine aid – do not comprehend the stakes of the conflict. How Trump transformed the GOPThe Ukraine war funding showdown highlights how America’s domestic politics are already reverberating around the globe. The splits in the GOP over Ukraine were exposed last week when 26 Senate Republicans voted against the bill containing Israel and Ukraine aid while 22 backed it.

Maybe it was the apocalyptically cold weather, with wind chills reaching minus 43 Fahrenheit. Or the winnowed field of candidates and an anxiety-addled electorate that is dreading the prospect of the first rerun election since the Dwight Eisenhower and Adlai Stevenson rematch of 1956. For whatever reason, the usual media circus that accompanies the Iowa caucuses has felt smaller this year, literally and spiritually. The number of credentialed journalists fell to 1,200, from 2,600 four years ago. The attenuated vibe was best summed up by a T-shirt on sale in the hotel gift shop:“Election 2024: Welp, I Guess We’re Doing This Again.”

It also is one of the most substantial exceptions to the Posse Comitatus Act, which generally prohibits using the military for law enforcement purposes. Trump has spoken openly about his plans should he win the presidency, including using the military at the border and in cities struggling with violent crime. His plans also have included using the military against foreign drug cartels, a view echoed by other Republican primary candidates such as Florida Gov. The threats have raised questions about the meaning of military oaths, presidential power and who Trump could appoint to support his approach. William Banks, a Syracuse University law professor and expert in national security law, said a military officer is not forced to follow “unlawful orders."

An old video of Shi’ite Islamist group Hezbollah’s anti-ship missiles has been falsely shared as footage published in response to U.S. deployment of carriers to the eastern Mediterranean amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in 2023. Experts believe that the Iranian-backed Hezbollah group in Lebanon may possess more than 100,000 rockets including precision missiles, such as drones and anti-tank, anti-aircraft and anti-ship missiles. However, the circulating video long predates the 2023 Israel-Hamas war. The caption states: “The video Footage depicting C-802 anti-ship cruise missiles has been resealed for the first time. The video of Hezbollah's anti-ship missiles was published in 2019, not during the 2023 Israel-Hamas war in response to the presence of U.S. carriers.

SHANGHAI, China (AP) — American Ballet Theatre returned to China on Thursday for the first time in a decade in the latest sign that strained U.S.-China relations are beginning to improve. The tour marks a revival of cultural exchanges between China and the United States. She said cultural exchanges between the U.S. and China “are very necessary" at this time. Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns said Monday during an event celebrating American World War II veterans who helped China battle Japan. Then there’s the war in Ukraine, where many on both the far left and the far right want to cut off aid, effectively giving Vladimir Putin victory. There are multiple reasons for that convergence, most of which I’ll leave to other analysts. But one common theme on the left and the right is the claim that we can’t afford the expense of that aid. What people making such claims should know is that their views about how much we spend on the military are generations out of date. Military spending today is much smaller as a share of the economy than it was then:

Most famously, President Jimmy Carter brokered the Camp David accords in 1978 between Egyptian President Anwar al-Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin. The first foreign leader to visit Camp David, then known as "Shangri-La," was British Prime Minister Winston Churchill who was there for World War Two talks with Roosevelt. Eisenhower, who named Camp David for his father and grandson, would grill steaks for family and friends. One time George W. His proposals include investing in American industry, teaching students workplace skills, and expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit. Forecasting "storm clouds ahead," Dimon wants the government to drive economic growth by subsidizing industry, investing in the workforce, and reducing income inequality. Following in Buffett's footsteps, Dimon said JPMorgan owes its business success to the "extraordinary conditions our country creates" for economic growth. Akin to Musk, Dimon said he didn't want the government to micromanage industry, believing "Adam Smith's invisible hand still prevails." He suggested expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit, a tax refund that allows lower-income working individuals and families to keep more of their earned income.
